PEMFC Graphite Flow Field Plate, Serpentine – 5 cm2

5 cm2 graphite plate with serpentine flow field that is suitable for H2/Air (hydrogen / air), H2/O2 (hydrogen / oxygen), and DMFC (direct methanol fuel cell)  and other electrochemical device testing (flow battery, redox flow battery, etc.). This plate is manufactured from 100% pure graphite. It has excellent electrical conductivity, high heat transfer, and superb corrosion resilience for various fuel cell and other electrochemical device testing or applications.

The flow pattern is based on a serpentine design with three channels. This allows for excellent control of the gaseous or liquid reactant flow and distribution across the entire surface of the electrode or the membrane (if the application is not using any catalyzed electrodes).

Serpentine graphite plates can be ordered in any quantity.  Each plate comes with a banana jack and a 4 mm banana plug as a standard item for attaching various electrical connections or sensor leads (voltage or current leads). Fuel Cell Store also provides various customizations such as graphite plates with 1/4″ Nylon or 1/4″ PTFE compression fittings at an additional cost (please see the dropdown menu when selecting the configuration to order). Further details are provided below for these various configurations.

Standard Plate Configuration: Machined graphite plate with a banana jack and one set of 4 mm banana plugs (red covered banana plug for cathode and black covered banana plug for anode). For customers purchasing this option, we strongly recommend using plastic fittings (Nylon or PTFE) as the tube fittings for the graphite plates. This will help prevent the cracking of the plates during attachment of the fittings. Using metallic tube fittings with graphite plates or should be avoided if at all possible, since during the installation of metallic tube fittings, cracking of the graphite plates will occur.  Over torqueing the tube fittings to the inlet/outlet ports of the graphite plate also needs to be avoided in order to prevent damages to the graphite plates or the fittings themselves.

Standard Plate Configuration with Nylon Fittings: Everything included with the standard configuration plus 2 sets of Nylon fittings. Machined graphite plate with a banana jack and one set of 4 mm banana plugs (red covered banana plug for cathode and black covered banana plug for anode) and 2 sets of Nylon tube fittings.  The tube fittings have male connections, 1/4 inch tube OD x 1/8 inch male NPT.  Nylon fittings are suitable for making connections to various metal and plastic gas or reactant transfer tubes and rated up to 220 psi.

Standard Plate Configuration with PTFE Fittings: Everything included with the standard configuration plus 2 sets of PTFE fittings. Machined graphite plate with a banana jack and one set of 4 mm banana plugs (red covered banana plug for cathode and black covered banana plug for anode) and 2 sets of PTFE tube fittings.  The tube fittings have male connections, 1/4 inch tube OD x 1/8 inch male NPT.  PTFE fittings are suitable for making connections to various metal and plastic gas or reactant transfer tubes and rated up to 220 psi and provides excellent chemical resistance to various environments.

Graphite plates are not suitable for electrochemical cells or applications that have half-cell potentials greater than 1.23 V (versus NHE) or applications that utilize corrosive chemicals/electrolytes that would present a situation where carbon atoms can be oxidized either electrochemically or chemically.
